AMP expected to be completed by Mid-October 2009.

In a letter dated July 22, 2009, NAPS New York Area Vice President Tommy Roma was notified that the Postal Service has decided to move all originating operations from the Western Nassau P&DC in Garden City to the Mid-Island P&DC in Melville. The Postal Service states that the decline in mail volumes and revenues due to the economic downturn has heightened the need for such consolidations.

At the time of the writing of this article, it is estimated that approximately 45 craft employees and 2 EAS employees will be affected. Some affected employees may be reassigned to the Mid-Island P&DC or to other vacant positions.

The AMP consolidation is expected to be completed by mid-October 2009.
